Between Greenland and Baffin Island

Some news from the Maewan and the traverse between Greenland and Baffin Island:

“Yesterday, July 25th, at noon, after traversing two-thirds of Baffin Bay by sail, through both fog and sunny weather, we reached the ice. What an unbelievable sight to float right next to these veritable islands of ice even though we are still in the middle of the sea.”

With the pack of ice straight ahead, the crew tried a direct approach, but the ice was a bit too solid and stopped everyone in their tracks, with sections of sea ice still frozen together and blocking the way: “Since yesterday at noon we’ve been unsuccessful in our attempts to go around this particular pack of ice.”

However, their efforts have finally paid off, and they can finally see Baffin Island and the entrance to the fjord where Nico Favresse and Sean Villanueva O’Driscoll are located: “We hope that they have caught enough fish since we are at least 48 hours behind schedule in picking them up, and the ice is still very much in our way.”
